By Patwant Singh, Channel News Asia

SINGAPORE : Singapore's good run in the SEA Games football tournament ended on Monday, when they were beaten 4-1 by Vietnam in the semi-finals.

Singapore had already met their target by making it to the last four.

And the Young Lions were still on a roll, when Khairul Nizam gave them the vital lead in the 27th minute.

But it was downhill from then on, as minutes later Vietnam equalised through Thanh Binh.

Vietnam took the lead just before half time, through Tien Thanh's goal.

The boys from Vietnam added two more goals in the second half for a convincing 4-1 win over Singapore. Both goals were scored by Ngoc Anh.

Singapore will now face either hosts Laos or Malaysia for the bronze medal match on Thursday. - CNA/ms
